Château Lastours

Château Lastours is a family estate managed by Louis de Faramond, independent vinegrower, who replaced his father five years ago. The estate belongs to the same family line since 1579.

We are carrying their legacy that we are dedicated to pass on by sharing our vinegrowing and winemaking « savoir-faire », as well as our beautiful architecture that marks the journey of the Château through centuries.
Louis is now surrounded by a young and dynamic team with reknown skills, which works everyday on our precious terroir and on each handcrafted wine, in order to bring the most beautiful wines out of our cellar.

Our vineyard has a strong personnality. It’s situated on the first terrace of the Tarn river’s right bank, and is well-known for its very specific soils that are extremely gravelly and rocky. They collect the heat from the day and get it back to the soil at night, which brings balance and finesse to our elegant and complex wines. Those are worked passionately by the Château Lastours’ team.

The Gaillac region is a very old vinegrowing area in France, which was developped by the Benedictine Monks of the Gaillac Abbey. Specific grape varieties make the uniqueness of this terroir. Among others, we can find Braucol, Duras, Prunelart, which are red grapes; and for white wines, Loin-de-l’Œil (french for « far from the eye »), or Mauzac. We are also planting other grape varieties that we find well suited to our terroir. Our aim is to combine our historical typicity and our curiosity for innovation and resilience on our evoluting terroir and climate.

We are recognized as a High Environmental Value agricultural estate (Label HVE, level 3). Since ten years, we are applying concrete actions to preserve our ecosystem that marks our terroir's beautiful specificity and to respect those who work each day to sustain our vinegrowing and winemaking activity, as well as our consumers. We're working on our soil's resilience with regenerative practices, harvesting at night to take advantage of cooler temperatures , which prevents grape oxydation and aromatic volatilization, helping us to get the best quality out of our vineyard.
Let's discuss how we can combine our savoir-faire and your vision. We'll take the time to get to know your needs and the opportunities we can work on together.
