Far from the beaten path and stereotypical constraints, and thanks to the grace of a terroir of schists and silicious pebbles, the wines of Saint-Martin d'Agel are original, typical of a schist terroir and unique scents. They are a faithful reflection of the sensitivity and the relentless quest for quality of its creators.
A patchwork of terroirs
The vineyard in the Faugères appellation of 15 hectares and in the Languedoc appellation (10 hectares) is in fact implanted on several levels of terraces with varied and interlocking soils according to geological periods:
- Faugérois shale
- siliceous pebbles on upper slopes,
- rolled pebbles from the terraces of Villafranchian,
- Sandy and gritty marls on lower terraces.
The vines are spread in the middle of the garrigue, in the middle of pines, holm oaks and cistus in the hills of the appellation Faugères. In a splendid landscape, plots overlooking the plain of Languedoc, one sees the Mediterranean Sea, the snowy Canigou in spring and in the distance the Pyrenees range. In this authentic landscape, surrounded by nature, the team of enthusiasts of the Domaine Saint Martin d'Agel produces elegant and authentic wines.
Multiple grape varieties
Syrah, Grenache, Mourvèdre, Carignan, Cinsault, Roussane, Grenache gris, Vermentino.
Age of vines: from 5 years to more than 40 years.
Yields vary, depending on the nature of the soil and the age of the vines, from 25 to 40 hectolitres per hectare.
